Anthropology Graduate Program

A letter from the Director of Graduate Programs, Anthropology
Dear Prospective Applicant:
Thank you for your interest in NC State's exciting new Masters Degree program in Anthropology. We have a dynamic faculty of active researchers and are seeking graduate students who are poised to make original contributions to the discipline. Program faculty members conduct research across the globe and have created opportunities for students to become involved in our on-going studies. Although we only began to offer a graduate degree in 2007, Anthropology graduate students at NC State are already distinguishing themselves by conducting original research projects, presenting their findings at regional and national anthropology conferences, and publishing their scholarly work as co-authors with program faculty. We prepare our students both to enter top-ranked Ph.D. programs as well as to find employment in nonacademic settings.
In addition to common core courses in anthropological theory and methods, our program offers concentrations in the following areas:
- Bioarchaeology
- Cultural Anthropology
- Environmental Anthropology
Please note that our program accepts full and part time students who begin their studies during the Fall semester.
We also encourage you to read our on-line Anthropology Program Manual in order to find out even more about us. Our application process is completely online. If you would like to apply to the program, you can do so by visiting the NC State Graduate School's website at:
http://www2.acs.ncsu.edu/grad/prospect.htm .
The deadline for Fall, 2010 admission will be January 16, 2009.
As part of the application you must submit GRE (Graduate Record Examination) scores, including your score on the new GRE writing test. You must also submit a personal statement that indicates which of our concentrations you would like to pursue, three completed reference forms, a writing sample and copies of official transcripts of all previous university education. If you are an international student from a country where English is not an official language, you must also
submit your scores on the TOEFL examination or the IELTS score. The university's code when submitting scores is 5496.
Not only is NC State a great place to get a graduate degree, the Raleigh-Durham area is a great place to live. It shows up regularly on lists of "Best Places" to live and work. Follow the link: http://www.ncsu.edu/about-nc-state/raleigh/index.php
for more information about the area. We strongly encourage prospective students to visit us. If you would like to visit, I will be glad to schedule meetings for you with faculty and current students in your areas of interest.
You must arrange for the delivery of other supporting documents (credentials, transcripts, test scores, recommendations, etc.) as described throughout the application form pages.
